While visiting Sanibel Island be sure to make the short trip to Captiva Island. The two destinations are connected by a short bridge and are considered sister islands. Many couples select the islands with hopes of saying “I do” at the quaint Chapel-By-The Sea. The chapel was built in 1903 initially as a school and is now on the National Registry of Historic Places. The church holds services from November to April each year. Weddings are also performed during this same timeframe.
Shelling, a host of water sports and popular activities are available to enjoy on both Sanibel and Captiva islands. If visiting the area during the busy winter season be sure to schedule time to enjoy the festive décor of Captiva Holiday Village.
The close proximity of Sanibel and Captiva makes it easy for visitors to make the quick trip between the two islands to spend an hour or two which can easily become the entire day. It’s a slower pace here so guests have a chance to soak up the sun and relax in the warm gentle waves of the Gulf of Mexico. While Captiva boasts a more casual atmosphere, there is plenty in the area to enjoy from a Sanibel Island vacation rental.
